Lazy or Artist

This is the ideal time of the year for thinking about sunrise images as the sun rises at a more reasonable hour for the lazy amongst us.  However, how do you know if the sunrise will be visible and if it is will it be colourful?  You could end up with lots of early mornings, vast amounts of travel to your chosen site, and all to no avail with no tangible results at the end of it.  Even if the sunrise is as you hoped it may not be in the right place.  Well, that’s all part of the excitement you cry.  NO…… I like more certainty in my endeavours.  To that end, I always plan ahead.  Sometimes you are looking at a scene which you know would work if the light were better or if it was sunrise or sunset. However, you know the sun will never rise or set in the right position.  So what do you do?  Well, I always take the image regardless even though it may end up in the not wanted or think again folder.  Then sometimes you get the urge to try out your artistic skills in a post-production software and you have that light bulb moment when it all comes together.  So no getting up at some unearthly hour, setting up in the dark and praying the sun will shine…. Let the artist in you shine instead.

This was the original……. a dull grey throw away image but the scene was right.

So below is where the artist comes in and it took less than half an hour

London Fashion Week… On the street

For five days in September London Fashion Week took place so I decided to extend my Street Photography experience and venture onto the London Streets. Well,  I have to say it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and a definite photographic challenge. I decided not to take “street photography” (see my last post for definition) images but to approach the individuals and adopt “The Sartorialist” method which I can assure you is no mean undertaking. To approach strangers with a view to photographing them is not for the faint hearted. It was with a mixture of trepidation and excitement, armed with my Fuji XT2 ,16-55mm, f2.8, zoom lens and totally reliant on natural light I set off to see who was setting the sartorial mood on the street. Here are some of my pics:

Street Photography

We hear a lot these days about Street Photography. What does it mean? Well if you google it (what happened to a dictionary or encyclopedia…. Who remembers those?) its defined as “A type of photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places. Street photographs are mirror images of society, displaying “unmanipulated” scenes, with usually unaware subjects.”  Further more the images are usually displayed as Monochrome.

Well here goes…. some “Street Photography” from a recent trip to Bristol……

Hever Castle and Gardens

This was one of the places on our bucket list but for one reason or another we never found ourselves travelling to this part of the UK.  We finally made it and were not disappointed.  As a rule our trips are usually planned to avoid school holidays but not this time and although very busy (lots of events laid on with children in mind) this did not in any way detract from the overall beauty of the gardens and castle (house). The weather on the day was perfect …warm and sunny with possible showers… so with cameras in hand and fuelled with tea and cake from the café off we went………

If you have never been to Hever Castle then you have missed a real treat. Its certainly back on our list for a return visit….. maybe in the Autumn?

Hever Castle and Gardens are located  3 miles southeast of Edenbridge on the Kent/Surrey/Sussex border in the village of Hever.
