Street Photography

We hear a lot these days about Street Photography. What does it mean? Well if you google it (what happened to a dictionary or encyclopedia…. Who remembers those?) its defined as “A type of photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places. Street photographs are mirror images of society, displaying “unmanipulated” scenes, with usually unaware subjects.”  Further more the images are usually displayed as Monochrome.

Well here goes…. some “Street Photography” from a recent trip to Bristol……

A Couple of Hours in Salisbury

On Tuesday this week I was lucky enough to have a couple of hours free in Salisbury so off I go, camera in hand with a view to trying out the Fuji XT2 at lunchtime on a very warm and sunny day (No No time for most photographers). Here are some of the resulting images!!

Hever Castle and Gardens

This was one of the places on our bucket list but for one reason or another we never found ourselves travelling to this part of the UK.  We finally made it and were not disappointed.  As a rule our trips are usually planned to avoid school holidays but not this time and although very busy (lots of events laid on with children in mind) this did not in any way detract from the overall beauty of the gardens and castle (house). The weather on the day was perfect …warm and sunny with possible showers… so with cameras in hand and fuelled with tea and cake from the café off we went………

If you have never been to Hever Castle then you have missed a real treat. Its certainly back on our list for a return visit….. maybe in the Autumn?

Hever Castle and Gardens are located  3 miles southeast of Edenbridge on the Kent/Surrey/Sussex border in the village of Hever.

Barrington Court NT

What a wonderful day at Barrington Court.  The weather was perfect with blue skies, a dash of light white cloud and a slight breeze, all of which contributed to the most vibrant colour in the gardens… well it was just one of those perfect days.  Words cannot effectively describe what we found there, I will let my photos do the talking.  So without further ado let the pictures roll……

Sherborne Abbey

I am very lucky to live close to Sherborne Abbey (well 20 minutes away by car). As a freelance photographer I regularly have assignments which take me close to or on occasions into the Abbey but like most things the more you see it the less you tend to notice.  On Monday, I had an assignment for the local paper to go to the Gryphon School and photograph a Lego model of the Digby Memorial. Their next project is to build a scale model of Sherborne Abbey also in Lego and this really made me think of what I could achieve with a little photoshop licence.  So off to the Abbey I went and snapped a few pictures trying to visualise how I would like the finished images to look. It was quite a grey day which was ideal as I would get no sun flare, reflections or heavy shadows.  Below are the before and after shots.  Hope you like them and I would be interested in your comments.
